About Facebook
Some time ago I created a Facebook “Fan Page” for A Better Connection. I log in occasionally to show the trollers to the door and post infrequent, drive-by comments on the wall. But for the most part it sits somewhere on the Internet with a log in and password that elude me. But as newspaper companies disappear like tumbleweed in a sandstorm and the size of yellow page books thinning down like cheap gravy, I’ve reconsidered paying more attention to my neglected “Fan Page”.
Last night I attended a presentation titled, Using Facebook for Business. I sat in a red plastic chair, sipping on bottled water realizing that this venture is bigger than me. The process of designing, marketing, building a fan base, establishing myself as an expert, refraining from the “quick, hard sell” is daunting at best. It is an intimidating and new world but my fear turned to determination when I heard there are more than 65 million Facebook users. This could be the best ROI ever!
I also learned last night that you can hire companies to manage your Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn sights. These social media marketing companies are part of a fast growing industry. Although outsourcing sounds like the way to go I am wondering how they will convey what services my answering service offers in posts that are current, hip and informative. I imagine this will require my attention similar to when I work with a payroll or web design company.
Have I decided on who will manage my company’s social media? The jury is still out. Right now I know enough to be dangerous but I do know a little. I’ll give it the time and effort and if that doesn’t work I’ll turn it over to the experts.
